Payment Method

We offer competitive compensation ranging from $18 to $20 per hour, reflecting your level of experience in event planning. As an intern, you will not only gain valuable hands-on experience in event planning but also receive fair compensation for your contributions to our mission of supporting terminally ill patients through meaningful social events.

Qualifications

We are seeking an event planning intern to assist in organizing social events, such as weddings, family reunions, bar mitzvahs, and more, all aimed at supporting terminally ill patients assigned to us. Requirements for this position include enrollment in an event planning educational institution, availability for a minimum of 10 hours per week, and a commitment ranging from 3 to 10 months based on weekly availability. Additionally, candidates should possess strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, effective time management abilities, the capacity to collaborate within a team and autonomously, a proactive problem-solving approach, a keen eye for detail, and the capability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Free Event Planning Courses: New students are eligible to take an event planning course for free through the Institute of Events and Design. While we explored other free event planning courses, many provide only limited access before requiring payment. However, the Institute's grants full access to their course curriculum and online training platform.

Furthermore, the Institute of Events and Design provides financial assistance programs to support individuals who may require extra help in covering the costs of their education. These programs are designed to ensure that aspiring event planners have access to quality education regardless of their financial circumstances.

1. 3. Pell Grant

   The Pell Grant is a need-based financial aid program from the federal government that is designed to help undergraduates from low-income families afford college. Grants don’t require you to pay any money back and don’t carry interest, unlike loans. Your eligibility and the amount you receive is determined by your financial need based on information you provided in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

2. 4. FSEOG Grant

   The Federal Supplemental Equal Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is administered and can be part of the student’s overall aid package. The specific amount is set by the institution’s financial aid office depending on the student’s financial need, funds available at the school, and the amount of aid the student is already receiving. The SEOG does not have to be re-paid.

Event planning is one of the best professions to be in right now, according to U.S. News & World Report. The field is fast-paced and demanding; however, the stress is worthwhile. You get to feel good knowing that you raised money for a worthy cause. The outcome is rewarding and meaningful.

Your work schedule is not always the same from week to week, due to meetings and special events that must be attended. Even though no single day is ever the same and this role is not suitable for someone who thrives on routine, there are effective fundraising method and routine tasks that you can follow to help ensure that you are on the right track with raising funds for your events.

Your typical work day...

A typical day could include writing thank you letters to people who have raised money for our organization. Your daily projects may include but are not limited to working on a newsletter, writing strategies, creating new fundraising initiatives and materials, budgeting, and donor liaison. There is a lot of scheduling, planning, and setting up phone calls or meetings with prospective donors. After your phone calls or meetings, your job consists of a lot of follow up and reporting in your office. It involves a lot of logistics to coordinate and reschedule a time to speak or meet up with prospective donors. There is also a fair amount of ongoing training.

Once you have successfully organized three fundraising events, your Internship Advisor will assign you to work with a patient from a local hospital who is facing a serious illness. Our nonprofit organization grants event “Wishes” to individuals who are facing serious illness.
